The first to embrace Islam with the Messenger of God

Our discussion today is about the first women, men, children, and slaves to convert to Islam, with no clear picture emerging. Islam did not spread, and they did not know what would happen to them in the coming days. Nothing but reliance on God alone. Let us learn about the beginnings of the nation praised by the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, in his noble hadith: “The best of generations is my generation, and the one after it, and the one after it…” So let us begin.
The First Woman to Embrace Islam
Khadija, may God be pleased with her. Khadija, may God be pleased with her, was the first woman the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, invited to Islam, and she embraced it. The hadith about the beginning of revelation indicates that she, may God be pleased with her, was the first to learn of the prophethood and the news of the revelation’s descent. She believed in the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, supported him, and comforted him.
This is significant
The first belief in the Messenger of God came from his devoted wife, Khadija. The first requirement for the wives of prophets is sincerity, not betrayal, in the call to faith and belief in him. Therefore, God Almighty chose for the first wife of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, a strong, confident, supportive, and well-known woman in society, which provided support for His beloved Messenger Muhammad. We should not forget that the wives of Noah and Lot, peace be upon them, were also strong, confident, supportive, and known for their goodness in society. Their wives betrayed them. We do not say marital betrayal, but rather betrayal in the call and support, which is the internal front for the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace. Noah, peace be upon him, had an internal front: his wife and son disbelieved in him, in God, and in his call. He also fought on the external front, which is the worst thing a person can face in his life, that the internal front be a source of harm, ridicule, and lack of support.
The First Man to Embrace Islam
Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may God be pleased with him)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) hastened to his close friend Abu Bakr (may God be pleased with him) to inform him of the honor God had bestowed upon him of prophethood and messengership, and to invite him to believe in him. Abu Bakr believed without hesitation and bore witness to the truth, thus becoming the first man to believe in the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was one of the Prophet's closest companions before his mission, knew him (peace and blessings be upon him) and his character, and was aware of the Prophet's truthfulness and trustworthiness, which would prevent him from lying to people, let alone to God! Therefore, as soon as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told him that God had sent him as a messenger, he hastened to believe in him and accept his message without hesitation.
For the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) said
“I never invited anyone to Islam except that he paused (pause for a moment to think), hesitated, and considered, except for Abu Bakr. He did not hesitate; rather, he hastened to accept when I invited him.
The Fruit of Abu Bakr As-Siddiq's Faith – may God be pleased with him –
Did our master Abu Bakr stop at his own faith? No, rather he invited his friends and those close to him. These close friends were five of the ten promised Paradise: Uthman ibn Affan, Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf, Saad ibn Abi Waqqas, Az-Zubayr ibn Al-Awwam, and Talha ibn Ubaydullah – may God be pleased with them all. What does this mean? It means he was very selective, choosing only those he saw as good. Is it conceivable that all those he invited to Islam would be among the ten promised Paradise? It is intense sincerity – it is deep faith in this religion, and unwavering support for a sincere and trustworthy friend. And you are an expert: that whoever has a certain status in a society has a voice that is heard. And if the one whose voice is heard is completely convinced of his idea, he will convince those around him of it as he is convinced of himself. And you are also certainly an expert that there is an area in the brain responsible for conviction. Yes, as you heard, if you are convinced of an idea and repeat talking about it more than once, it enters this area of conviction and becomes a firmly established belief. Therefore, calling to Islam in our religion is not a personal whim, but a command, in accordance with the saying of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace: “Convey from me, even if it is a single verse.” This is not a recommendation, but a command. “Convey” is a command form. And it is no wonder that the first to take this command was our master Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq. Why? Because God Almighty, from above the seven heavens, named him the Companion – even though this Quran came later in the Medina era, where God Almighty said, {If you do not aid him, God has already aided him when those who disbelieved expelled him, the second of two, when they were in the cave, when he said to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed, God is with us…”}, the scholars of the nation have agreed that the Companion in this verse is Abu Bakr al-Siddiq… Leave our master al-Siddiq for now… and look at your own situation: Are you a true companion to your companion? Do you never betray him? Do you never deceive him if interests change? This nation will not return to its glory except by what its predecessors began with. Fear God in your dealings with your companions so that trust in friends is not lost.
The first of the young boys to embrace Islam was Ali ibn Abi Talib
the Prophet's cousin. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took him into his care to ease the burden on his uncle, who had many children and was unable to raise them all. Ali ibn Abi Talib was raised under the care of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) from infancy. Ali was about nine years old when the Prophet received his prophethood. He entered upon the Prophet Muhammad and his wife Khadija while they were praying and was surprised by what they were doing. When he asked them about it, they told him about the prophethood of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Ali (may God be pleased with him) spent that night pondering what he had learned and declared his Islam before the Prophet the following day.
From this, we can deduce the following:
1- The Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him) repaid his uncle's kindness during his lifetime. His uncle, Abu Talib, who had raised him until he married Khadija, was poor and had many children. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked Al-Abbas (the Prophet's uncle and Abu Talib's brother) to help him. They went to Abu Talib and took two of his sons to raise in their own homes to ease his burden. Thus, Ali (may God be pleased with him) was raised in the Prophet's household under the care of Khadija and the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
2- What kind of personality does a nine-year-old boy have, one who thinks, decides, and resolves matters in one night and announces his decision the next day? In our society, a nine-year-old is not even allowed to cross the street alone. Let us remember: the nation will only achieve glory through the principles established by its forefathers.
The first of the freed slaves to embrace Islam was Zayd ibn Haritha, may God be pleased with him.
It was mentioned that the first of the Mualy to embrace Islam was Zayd ibn Haritha, may God be pleased with him, as the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, bought Zayd, may God be pleased with him, when he was a young slave. Then he freed him to be his Mula (as his son).
And clients were not slaves. The proof is that Zayd ibn Haritha, may God be pleased with him, was known in the pre-Islamic era, before the abolition of adoption in Islam and its replacement with the system of guardianship, as Zayd ibn Muhammad.
The story of Zayd, may God be pleased with him, and how the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, adopted him before the abolition of adoption, in brief: Zayd ibn Haritha's mother visited her people, and Zayd, who was young, was with her. They raided her caravan and captured Zayd, meaning they kidnapped him. They sold him in the market of Ukaz, where a man named Hakim ibn Hizam bought him and gave him as a gift to his aunt, Khadija, to serve her. This was common practice in the pre-Islamic era—the buying and selling of slaves. We will dedicate a separate and exclusive topic to this, as slavery has returned in our time in overwhelming numbers. Returning to the story: When Khadija married the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, she gave him as a gift to her husband. And he was safe, so some people from his tribe made the pilgrimage to the Sacred House. They used to make the pilgrimage to the House from all the tribes and neighboring countries before the pilgrimage was prescribed in Islam, as they used to make the pilgrimage to the House according to the law of our master Abraham, peace be upon him. They saw Zaid and recognized him and informed his family, so they came to take him. - And because the story is long, we will summarize it: that Zaid preferred to be raised by the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, rather than by his wealthy family, and he preferred to be a freed slave rather than be a free man with his original family... I wonder how the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, treated Zaid?
Finally,
Did you notice something? How many people lived under the care of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in his home?
1- Four daughters: They were the daughters of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, Zaynab, and Fatimah.
2- The Prophet's young cousin: Ali ibn Abi Talib.
3- The Prophet's freed slave, who was a young man at the time: Zayd ibn Harithah.
In total, there were six children whom the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) supported. Two of them were not his biological children. I mean, the Muslim community is bleeding, from the first Uyghur in China to Palestine, and the list goes on. How many orphans are there in the Muslim community? Who will care for them? You who have not had children, where are you? You whom God has blessed with abundance, why don't you take in children to grow up alongside your own? You whom God has blessed with abundance, when will you sponsor an orphan, even if it's just in your own home? And the real question that remains is: When?
